Ilona Valkonen´s (b. 1980) paintings are concretely three-dimensional. Their base have been deliberately cut through in a way that it still allows them to stay together. In the final piece the wholes cut into the fabric and the fabric escaping from those wholes, together form a surface that is light and lively. Hanging threads of fabric twist into rolls, some of them hang behind the base, some of them in the front like scaling paint on a wall. The painting is a playful combination of linen, colourful surfaces, the empty and the full. Valkonen´s actual brush work is small gestured. She uses colours scarcely and trusts in subtle variations of tone.
Exhibition open from August 11th till September 3rd.
Opening party on Tursday, August 10th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
