Kittens at ARTag Gallery

We have new Eeva-Leena Eklund’s paintings at ARTag. Welcome to see cats, swans, deers and many other animals!

Eeva-Leena Eklund (born 1972) takes her inspiration from old postcards, glossy pictures, tapestries and toys. There isn’t a bit of irony, but true admiration of the topics. The paintings are made with beautiful tones. Eklund is an expressionist with a sweet pastel color palette, yet the paintings have very spontaneous and sometimes even rough finishing. It´s wonderful how Eklund can push aside the kitsch aspect and concentrate on creating a new approach for the animal themed clichés.

Eeva-Leena Eklund graduated from Turku Drawing School (Turun Piirustuskoulu) and after that from Kuvataideakatemia. Her works are being exposed for example in the Art Museum of Helsinki (Helsingin Taidemuseo), collections of Wihuri Trust and the state of Finland.

Brand new Kirsti Tuokko paintings in ARTag Gallery!

Kirsti Tuokko’s child themed paintings have created lot of interest and Kirsti has created a new ensemble for ARTag Gallery including old and brand new paintings, on display Sat&Sun 11.-12.4. and 18.-19.4. 12:00-16:00 + during the week by appointment (contact Veikko).

Kirsti Tuokko (born 1943) works in Helsinki at Kaapelitehdas. She uses oil paint on plexiglas, but for her plexiglas is not just the surface – she uses its features widely: paints on both sides, scratches it to create hair thin lines and builds layers to the paintings. Her paintings are profiles, she has drawn and painted people young and old. In her paintings one will find easily identifiable human characteristics – and paintings will exhibit not just individual pictures, but create more general association to ones childhood with its vulnerability and sensitivity.

Marikka Kiirikoff: 1920 at ARTag Gallery

Marikka Kiirikoff (born 1974) is a Helsinki based artist who graduated from Kuvataideakatemia in 2002. She has had various exhibitions in Helsinki: Forum Box, Jangva and TM-gallery to name a few – and is now exhibiting her new painting series “1920” in ARTag Gallery.

“1920” captures the interesting and diverse features of that decade – there is plenty of hope for a brighter future, quest for beauty and of course – style. Esthetical influences from Asia are also present. On the other hand, recovery from the war and confusion about technical advancement are also essential part of the decade.

Marikka Kiirikoff’s 1920 is on display in ARTag Gallery during two weekends – Mar14-15 and Mar21-22, Sat&Sun 12:00-16:00. During the week, please contact Veikko for a private viewing.
