Kalle Hamm (b. 1969) draws the spectator deep into a carefully constructed reality. Hamm has created a spectacular visual world by drawing, and has complemented it with texts. The letter format accentuates the artwork’s readiness for a dialogue. As part of this exhibitions there is also the sound art project, Band of Weeds, where a mugwort, a creeping thistle and a northern dock have formed a band together.
Exhibition open from the 6th till 29th of April. Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, the 5th of April at 5 p.m.!
The Invisible Sex project makes transgender people visible. They don’t identify themselves as male or female. Binary gender identities are now defining the general image of a human being. This project tells us about those growth experiences, run-ins with the authorities, and finding your own space. This exposition’s portraits have been photographed by Jenni Holma. In addition to her, the project team includes comic artist Apila Pepita Miettinen and journalists Veera Järvenpää and Kaisu Tervonen. Together with the exposition, a book called The Invisible Sex will be published.
Emmi Kallio (b. 1981) unashamedly carnivalizes the tradition of abstract painting, and especially action painting. However, the funny names of the paintings, the use of glitter and the playful and pastel toned colour scheme all include a more somber theme. Kallio’s paintings are like portraits from the life of generation Y.
The exhibition will be open from the 9th of March till April 1st.
Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, 8th of March at 5 p.m.!
