11.04.19 – KIM SOMERVUORI: DRAWINGS – DIARY OF AN OLD KID

Published

For ten days ARTag Gallery’s Studio will convert into Kim Somervuori’s painting and drawing installation. The name of the ensemble is Drawings – diary of an old kid, and it extends in the studio space from floor to ceiling. However, the installation is composed of individual pieces.

The exhibition is a clear extension to Somervuori’s earlier installations, and its aesthetics are similar to the drawing installation we saw at the Mältinranta Artcenter in Tampere last autumn.

Sovervuori is a material romantic in whose artworks paper and fabric are never just the base, but time has left its marks on them. Cultural references are layered in the content of the artworks, and in this installation they form a web of references and meanings, reminiscent of the reality.

The exhibition will be open from the 11th til the 21st of April. Wed-Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-16.

Closed on Good Friday.

26.04.19 – SAMI HAVIA: PHANTASIA

Published

Sami Havia (b. 1982) is known for his paintings and drawings where different techniques are layered into an interesting ensemble bursting with details. In his new exhibition we will be seeing a series of paintings on paper, where the banal meets with the sublime and where the design language is in debt to the creases of baroque and the swirls of rococo.

The exhibition will be open from the 26th of April till May 19th. Wed-Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-16.

Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, April 25 from 5 to 7 pm!

The gallery will be closed on first of May.

29.03.19 – MIKKO PAAKKONEN: SMALL TOWN SYNDROME

Published

Mikko Paakkonen (b. 1990) will be graduating from the Turku Arts Academy this spring. His paintings are physical, and the influence of both action painting and informalism can be seen in them. Perhaps this is why their materialism comes across as aesthetically timeless.

The exhibition will be open from March 29th till the 21st of April. Closed on Good Friday.

Wed-Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-16.

Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, March 28th from 5 to 7 pm!

01.03.19 – MARKE-RIITTA MARTSOLA: THE YEAR OF THE DOG

Published

Marke-Riitta Martsola is an artist living in Joensuu, and she makes wood engravings. In them, colour is layered into a lively surface, much like in monotype. In her new artworks, dogs play the leading role. A sort of an archetype of this loyal but unpredictable animal is on an adventure in this world of colour.

The exhibition will be open from the 1st until the 24th of March. Wed-Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-16.

Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, 29th of February from 5 to 7 pm!

01.03.19 – PÄIVI ALLONEN: REFLECTION

Published

Päivi Allonen (b. 1972) doesn’t paint landscapes, but their reflections. Her landscapes are meta descriptions of the landscape, mental images of the landscape and its essence. It is indulging to immerse into the engulfing aesthetics that originate from experiences with nature, but in fact reflect states of mind.

The exhibition will be open from the 1st till the 24th of March. We-Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-19.

Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, February 28th from 5 to 7 pm!

Published

Jari Arffman (b. 1965) is a photographer from Tampere. In the field of photography, he moves in the margins. The photographs have been taken on black and white film with a cinematography camera.

The exhibition will be open from the 1st till the 24th of February, Wed-Fri 12-18, Sat-Sun 12-16.

Welcome to the opening party on Thursday, 31st of January from 5 to 7 pm!
